Custom Cable Process
Flexible Drive is Australia's leading manufacturer, designer and repairer of cables. We have over 70 years of cable making experience. Below are questions and answers which may assist you in dealing with us to get a custom cable made or repaired.
Q: What is the process to get an old or damaged Cable repaired or replaced or a new Custom Cable built?
A: We can repair and rebuild as well as manufacture and fabricate a wide range of Cables for automotive, transport and marine. Depending on where you are located around Australia the process can take anywhere from 24-48 hours, allow up to 7 working days if shipping in between States is involved. We aim to be 'easy to deal with' and that means we do our best to make or repair your cable within our quoted timeframes. Should you not be happy with our service, or if you'd like to tell us how great we are, we'd love to hear from you. Just send us an email by clicking here.
Q: What information do you require from me?
A: We have designed an online form, just click here to complete. But, if you'd rather handwrite your information to provide with your cable, these are the questions we need you to answer. Do your best to supply us the following details:
- Whether you would you like your sample returned or can we reuse any of the parts from your old cable?
- Do you require a quote first?
- Are any of the Parts critical? ie. does a thread screw into a specific part or is it just for a generic fitting as this detail can mean the difference between the labour costs involved to turn up a specific thread on our Lathe versus simply grabbing a common component straight out of a parts bin.
- Your contact details and return delivery address.
- What the cable is being used for.
- If we are to copy the sample as supplied or whether there are any modifications required.
- The more information supplied the better.
- All cables are built in our cable factory in Melbourne and you will not be charged freight between our branches.
Q: Can I deal direct with Flexible Drive Melbourne from Interstate?
A: You are better off dealing with the Flexible Drive office in your State, given the volume that our factory receives daily, working with your local branch will make certain that you get the personalised service that you require and safeguards against any communication errors between factory and customer.
Q: What if I need another cable made again in the future?
A: For every custom cable we build we create a drawing and keep this file against your job number. Please note if you ordered a cable more than 10 years ago we may not have this information on file.
Q: What to do if the new cable doesn’t work exactly as the old one or isn’t exactly as I designed?
A: Unfortunately this occasionally happens which is why we request as much information at the start of the process from you. But, if and when it does happen, your local Flexible Drive branch will work with you and our factory to provide a cost effective solution or warranty if applicable.
Q: Where should I send my cable?
A: Send or personally deliver your old cable to your closest Flexible Drive branch. Check out the contact section of this website to see which branch is closest to you.
Or you can email in a drawing or photo of the new cable you want built, including information on how the cable is being used by completing our online form.
